The Company:

This Events Supplier manages event, exhibition equipment and infrastructure for events right across Australia. With offices across the country, they are looking for a Technical Director to join their Sydney-based team. 

Position Terms:
  • Full-time, permanent role
  • Working full-time in the office
  • Salary: $110,000 - $130,000 plus super (depending on experience)
The Role:

The Technical Director is responsible for leading the technical vision, quality, and execution of productions and events within the Productions Team. This role will provide high level technical expertise and be a resource for the entire event process from inception to delivery. 

Key Responsibilities include;
  • Planning and Management of Event Delivery:
    • Take responsiblity for all jobs allocated from planning to completion 
    • Prepare labour schedules for all jobs allocated
    • Review all relevant documentation for each job including equipment bookings, job costs analysis, project schedule in consultation with relevant sales and accounts staff
    • Together with the Project Managers, Site Supervisors and Accounts team develop a pre event plan for each job that should include all the labour, set up and bump out schedules, special event costs and load lists and logistics plans
    • Deliver and supervise the job onsite where possible ensuring it is on time and within budget 
  • Team Leadership:
    • Provide positive leadership and direction to crew 
    • Manage team performance deadlines and efficiency requirements
    • Understand and champion the team ethos, policies and procedures
    • Seek opportunities for mentoring and development of team members 
    • Lead internal training workshops with technicians when required 
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Maintain comprehensive product knowledge across all facets of the Productions business
    • Consistent approach to all streams of technology and equipment required for event delivery 
    • Proactively seek support and self education for non core skills 
    • Consider creative and cost aspects of technical solutions specified
The Candidate:

The successful candidate will have strong technical expertise, including an advanced knowledge across audio, lighting, video, LED, switching, networking, and broadcast/streaming systems as well as rigging. Experience working in corporate AV, event production, or technical leadership roles is essential for this role.
  • Strong understanding of corporate AV workflows, show calling, and live event production
  • Ability to design and implement complex multi-room and multi-feed technical setups
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and make confident decisions during live events
  • Strong documentation ability: CAD, Vectorworks, signal flow diagrams, and technical schematics
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to technical excellence
  • Ability to work from the office 5 days a week
  • Ability to travel for event delivery when required
