The Company:
A National Membership Association is looking for an experienced Team Leader Events to lead the delivery of a diverse portfolio of conferences, exhibitions and industry events across Australia. This is a remote working opportunity for someone based anywhere in Australia, provided they have access to a major airport and are comfortable travelling interstate when required. Working as part of the organisation's leadership team, the Team Leader Events will manage a team of two experienced event professionals while also remaining hands on across event planning, delivery, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement.

The Role:
The Team Leader Events will be responsible for overseeing the planning, execution and evaluation of the organisation's national event portfolio, with a strong focus on conferences, exhibitions and industry events. This is a leadership role that combines approximately 70% operational event delivery with 30% strategic planning and improvement. You will lead and mentor a team of two event professionals while also taking ownership of event planning, budgets, venues, suppliers, registration, exhibitions, stakeholder relationships and onsite delivery. The role will also play an important part in reviewing existing systems and processes, identifying smarter ways of working and contributing to the future direction of the organisation's event program.
Key responsibilities will include: - Lead the planning, organisation and delivery of national conferences, exhibitions and industry events.
- Manage and mentor a team of two experienced event professionals.
- Provide clear direction, priorities and support across the events team.
- Foster a positive, collaborative and accountable team culture.
- Develop and manage event budgets and ensure events are delivered within financial guidelines.
- Coordinate venue selection, catering, AV, production and onsite event requirements.
- Negotiate contracts with venues, suppliers, entertainers and other event partners.
- Oversee event registration processes and attendee communications.
- Oversee exhibition sales, floorplans and exhibitor logistics.
- Manage relationships with sponsors, exhibitors, partners, attendees, volunteers and industry suppliers.
- Ensure exhibitors and sponsors receive a high quality event experience.
- Act as a senior point of contact for event related enquiries and stakeholder matters.
- Work closely with the leadership team to align event operations with broader organisational objectives.
- Monitor event performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and delivery.
- Develop and implement event policies, procedures and operational processes.
- Identify opportunities to digitise and streamline event systems.
- Explore the use of technology and AI to improve event delivery and business efficiency.
- Manage event related risk and ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and legal requirements.
- Conduct post event evaluations and analyse attendee, exhibitor and sponsor feedback.
- Review event financial performance and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Prepare event reports and updates for senior leadership.
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, tools and event management best practice.
- Contribute to future conference and event planning across Australia.
- Travel interstate to support and lead event delivery when required.
The Candidate:
The successful candidate will be an experienced events professional with strong people leadership skills and a proven record of delivering conferences, exhibitions and stakeholder focused events. You will be confident balancing leadership and strategy with hands on event delivery and will enjoy mentoring and developing others while still being actively involved in the detail of major events. Previous experience within an association, membership organisation or not for profit environment would be highly regarded.
The successful candidate will also have:
- Proven experience delivering conferences, exhibitions and complex events.
- Previous people management experience.
- Experience leading, mentoring and developing event professionals.
- Strong project management skills.
- Experience managing multiple events and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong budget management and financial skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management and relationship building capabilities.
- Strong venue, supplier and contract management experience.
- Experience managing exhibition and exhibitor requirements.
- Strong problem solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- A highly organised and proactive approach.
- Experience developing systems, documenting processes and improving event operations.
- Experience using EventsAir, Cvent or a similar event management platform is essential.
- Confidence working remotely and independently.
- The ability to lead a distributed team effectively.
- Availability for state and interstate travel.
- Flexibility to work outside standard hours around event delivery.
- A current driver's licence.
- The ability to be based anywhere in Australia with access to a major airport.
